One thing that I find amazing about computers as tools is how much they allow us to explore. Being able to express systems in terms of only their rules, and let the computer evaluate, search optimize, etc… is incredibly fascinating. There are entire worlds out there waiting to be explored through the lens of computation. One such thing I keep using the computer to search for are visual “enumerations” of all possible states of a system.

For example, after playing with a wide rubber-band I wondered how many different ways could you fold it a certain number of times, and produce a unique shape? If you fold it zero times, you clearly can only [produce a circle](https://objkt.com/asset/hicetnunc/554209). If you allow yourself to fold it exactly once, there is again [only one possible shape](https://objkt.com/asset/hicetnunc/554215) you can make. 

But with two folds it starts to [get interesting](https://objkt.com/asset/hicetnunc/554220). And [with five folds](https://objkt.com/asset/hicetnunc/554232) there is a whole range of wacky, squiggly shapes enumerating all possible states of the rubber band under these constraints.

For the series *7 Factorial* I’m representing one of the simplest possible enumerations, namely all the ways to permute (order) some items. For example, there are 2 ways to permute items “A” and “B”, namely: “A B”, and “B A”. At 7 items, there are 5040 possible permutations. I personally find this range of shapes all subtly different yet together enumerating all variations on a theme totally delightful. There is so much variety packed into something so simple.

In celebration of this minimal, structured, yet spontaneously-arising diversity of forms, each of the 19 mints available in “7 Factorial” will be a randomly chosen permutation of 5040. To properly appreciate the full parameter space, and contextualize each of the 19 chosen mints within it, each minter will later be airdropped the full 5040 permutations with the 19 “realized” editions highlighted.

*Evolving Pixels* is an exhibition centered around the theme of growth. The show invites a set of diverse digital artists who work with computational technologies–namely, generative or AI-assisted–to investigate what growth means to them.

From literal interpretations of botanical growth as observed in nature to more abstract explorations of personal and creative growth, each artist brings their unique vision and style to the theme, resulting in a multifaceted collection of artwork. Together, these talented artists provide a textured look at a universal concept that pervades all facets of life. Specifically, they invite us to think of growth in relation to the machine. What does it mean to grow, evolve, and change in our increasingly digital world?

PROOF has partnered with Art Blocks and Venus Over Manhattan to bring *Evolving Pixels* to life. The long-form generative collections in the exhibition are being delivered with the Art Blocks Engine. From April 12-24, Venus Over Manhattan will display *Evolving Pixels* at their Soho gallery in New York City.
