It involves inviting passengers during Uber rides to share their thoughts and struggles, capturing a unique moment in time before the pandemic. What is it?

The Uber Diary is a conceptual art project that arose from my profound realization of the modern world's increasing disconnection and isolation due to technology. In response to humanity's innate yearning to connect and share stories, I was inspired to utilize the Uber platform to invite passengers to share their intimate thoughts and struggles, offering us an intimate glimpse into their lives.

Started in the fall of 2019, right before the pandemic hit, this project captures a unique moment in time, right before our lives changed due to the global pandemic. The project captures passengers’ everyday thoughts, feelings, struggles, and stories. The entries that were shared by the passengers transcend gender, race, religion and identity. They reveal the true essence of each soul that participated in the Uber Diary journey. While reading and reflecting on other passengers' entries, new passengers felt inspired to write their own stories.

The Uber Diary is a collection of diary entries written by passengers that I met while driving Uber. Inspired by each page of the diary, I then created GAN generative NFTs in my own artistic style. This became an art book intended to create mental health awareness and to provide a glimpse in time to our pre-pandemic lives. It is also a reminder that we all share the same struggles, that we are more similar than we think.

The project takes a multi-faceted approach by combining hand-written diary entries with AI generative art NFTs. These NFTs mirror the stories shared by the passengers, creating a unique digital representation of their experiences.

The Uber Diary project will culminate in an art exhibition and book tour that embraces inclusivity and embraces the innovative spirit of Web3.

About the team

Galavis, a Venezuelan-American artist in Los Angeles, draws inspiration from his Caracas upbringing with an architect father and physicist mother. He blends modernism, fauvism, surrealism, and cubism, using diverse mediums and unique canvas shapes. Galavis' art champions human consciousness, equality, and inclusivity, delving into socio-political themes.

Empowering women is central to Galavis' message, portraying them as creators and challenging historical male-driven destruction. He's intrigued by blockchain's ethical potential, diving into digital and crypto art since 2021. Galavis' work has gained prominence through U.S. exhibitions and features in global private collections.

Art, for Galavis, is a medium to express and liberate emotions, fostering self-awareness. His art becomes a catalyst for change, offering hope and reflection amidst the chaotic pace of life.
